Bearded Dragon Basking
Being a desert reptile, the Bearded dragon
spend most of its time actively basking in a warm area. This is
not only to meat his temperature requirements for normal
physiological functioning (i.e. to digest its food), but also to
absorb ultraviolet rays from the sun. Bearded dragon basking
behavior can also be seen in captivity under the right
circumstances.
Bearded Dragon Basking In Captivity
Bearded dragon basking behavior can be
stimulated by supplying a basking area on one side of the
vivarium. This can be done by placing a rock under a basking
spotlight or by using a
Bearded dragon
heat rock. The immediate temperature on the surface of the
rock should be about 40 ºC / 104 ºF
with a temperature decrease away form the basking area. A
basking rock with an overhead Bearded dragon basking lamp is a
much more natural setup compared to when only bottom heating is
used. |
