Grasshoppers
Bearded dragon grasshoppers (Bearded dragon locusts), although
not a perfectly balanced feeder insect, makes interesting food
for these animals. Because of their motility it seems like
Bearded dragons enjoys hunting them. This makes them a perfect
occasional snack for larger dragons.
Feeding Bearded Dragon Grasshoppers
Because of the hard exoskeleton of Bearded dragon grasshoppers
should be avoided during the first few months of a dragon's
life. Only large dragons will be able to crush them adequately.
The legs of large grasshoppers should be removed (twist and
pull) prior to live feeding to prevent possible injuries.
Bearded Dragon Grasshopper Availability
At the moment there are only a few countries that sells these
items on a commercial base. Because of their high degree of
motility, non-proliferous breeding nature, difficulty to feed
and somewhat imbalanced composition (high percentage of
indigestible chitin) they are probably going to stay that way.
Wild caught grasshoppers can be fed on an occasional basis. When
catching Bearded dragon grasshoppers make sure that it is from
an area which is pesticide free and feed them immediately to
ensure a high nutritional value. |
