Lethargic Bearded Dragon
Signs of a lethargic Bearded
dragon include listlessness and the unwillingness to eat or
walk. Bearded dragon lethargy can be, and most often is, very serious. Healthy Bearded dragons should
always be bright, alert and almost always willing to eat. When
these signs are seen, in combination or separately there must be
no delay in finding the cause of the problem.
Lethargic Bearded Dragon Causes
Because lethargy is such an general clinical sign in sick
Bearded dragon, there can literally be anything wrong.
Lethargy is a very unspecific and only one of the possible clinical signs of a
sick Bearded dragon.
Falling and
complicated injuries can also cause
Bearded dragon lethargy. There are
also a lot of
diseases that can cause this condition.
Lethargic Bearded Dragon Treatment
In most of the cases it will be
beneficial to make a specific diagnoses before just starting to
treat these animals. Some lethargic Bearded dragons will
unfortunately get worse no matter what the treatment is going to
be. A lethargic or sick Bearded dragon must be presented to a qualified
reptile veterinarian
for further evaluation.
Always accommodate these
animals with a fresh stool sample sealed in a ziplock or similar
plastic bad. Expensive additional tests such as faecal flotation
and wet preparations, radiography and ultrasonography might be
necessary to diagnose some of these cases. Treatment will
include a combination of parenteral fluids (a drip),
antiparasitics and antibiotics.
